for design excellence; AIA Arizona conferred honor, merit, and citation
awards on several member projects; the Kentucky Society of Architects

Encourages Architects to Participate in State Security Discussions
States are taking new actions to evaluate security measures
in the case of possible terrorist attacks. About half have either
designated a cabinet-level homeland security position or are setting
up task forces or committees to review security issues and policies.

Private- and public-sector architects will gather at the
AIA national headquarters building in Washington, D.C., on November
9 to discuss issues and trends-including security challenges-in
the procurement of overseas federal agency projects. Full

Tracking
the Economic Impact of Terrorist Attacks on State Legislative Work
AIA Government Affairs released a special report October
24 detailing the economic impact the September 11 attacks will have
on state legislative activities affecting architects. Its analysis
indicates that AIA state components could face "unanticipated,
difficult, and costly" legislative battles. Full
