New AIA Center Offers Bibliography of Security-Related Resources
List to be updated continually
The AIA Security Resource Center now offers the "Annotated Bibliography of Security Resources" of books, articles, audiotapes, and videotapes on a range of building security topics. The entries are annotated where appropriate, and the list, which now contains more than 70 entries, is being updated frequently. Visit the Resource Center site and click on "Annotated Bibliography of Security Resources." Many of the titles are linked to sources for obtaining a copy or can be special-ordered through the AIA Bookstore. Call 800-242-3837, option #4.

GSA/PBS Commissioner Briefs AIA ExCom
GSA Public Buildings Commissioner F. Joseph Moravec, amid his hectic schedule, came to the AIA headquarters October 19 to brief the AIA Executive Committee on issues of mutual interest. Full Story

Business Off in September, Anticipated to Remain Down in Fourth Quarter
AIA Work-on-the-Boards Survey
Business conditions had softened at many firms during the first eight months of the year. For many, however, conditions deteriorated even further in September. Over a quarter of firms indicated billings were down 5% or more in September compared to August levels, as contrasted to only 15% that reported gains. Full Story

World Monuments Fund Unveils 100 Most Endangered Sites
The World Monuments Fund (WMF) announced on October 11 its biennial Watch List of the top 100 imperiled historic, architectural, and cultural sites worldwide. As an emergency measure, WMF also added Historic Lower Manhattan as the 101st site on the endangered list. Full Story

The designers of educational facilities in Australia and Spain received honors for creating outstanding learning environments in a competition sponsored by School Construction News, the Design Share Web site, and C/S Group. The program, which is in its second year, recognized a total of 62 state-of-the-art elementary, secondary, higher-education, and special-use facilities that promote increased learning through design.
