Joseph Moravec was in his position as the commissioner of the General
Services Administration Public Buildings Service for only a few months
when terrorist attacks in New York City and Arlington, Va., began a federal-facilities
crisis of major proportions. As the person in charge of all GSA-administered
facilities and the head of the GSA Federal Protective Service, Moravec
is overseeing the relocation of thousands of displaced federal workers
and the protection of millions of square feet of federal courtroom and
office space.
Amid his hectic schedule, the commissioner came
to the AIA headquarters October 19 to brief the AIA Executive Committee
on issues of mutual interest. The AIA ExComthe nationally elected
officers of the AIA and its chief executivegathered at the national
component headquarters October 1819. AIArchitect
will report on the action items from the October 18 teleconference among
the full Board of Directors in the coming week.
