Three Pedestrian Bridges Envisioned to Connect Manhattan with New Jersey, Historic Governor’s Island
New York-based Eytan Kaufman International, has developed three proposals for futuristic-style pedestrian bridges connecting Manhattan with nearby New Jersey and Governor’s Island—two crossing the Hudson River and one crossing New York Harbor. The two smaller bridges would have an arch span design, while the largest bridge would be a cable-stayed, two-pronged walkway covering an entire mile. Each bridge would feature a green park promenade and commercial, cultural, and recreational facilities. Are these bridges a fantasy, or might one, two, or all three become a reality one day? Read on to find out more . . . then consider the possibilities!

In the Heart of the City, This Park Grows Up Wild
P.K. VanderBeke’s Islands and their Streams development plan lets nature take hold on the Chicago lakefront
The Islands and their Streams redevelopment project for the northern portion of the Chicago lakefront uses natural, biological processes to create park space and purify water. This, coupled with the removal of Lake Shore Drive from the shore and out into Lake Michigan, helps to create a less obstructed and impacted relationship between the city and the lake.

An Everywhere Space for Everyone’s Religion
Interfaith chapel finds common ground that can go anywhere
The goal of Andrew Liles', AIA, LEED-AP, design for an interfaith chapel is to create an atmosphere of reverence and spirituality for people of all faiths without any particular religion’s iconography or mythology. Liles, who practices with the Jackson, Miss.-based firm Canizaro Cawthorn Davis, looks to form and fluid siting to express overarching spiritual themes common to many faiths: the unity and community of believers and the ubiquity of deity and faith.
