Milan’s Urban Fabric: Rewoven with Threads of International Collaboration
25 architects from 8 countries embark on massive redevelopment ahead of Expo 2015
With its selection as the host of the Expo 2015, Milan and the Lombardy region of Italy have begun working on the development of a major destination and transit hub in the heart of Milan called Porta Nuova. Busby Perkins + Will’s Dockside Green Places Its Bets on Record-Shattering Sustainability
It’s the world’s first LEED Platinum-certified community, but still, a pragmatic shade of green
Dockside Green is a mixed-use, masterplanned development in Victoria, B.C., that will be completely LEED® Platinum-certified. Despite its ambitious sustainability, its understated architecture doesn’t go out of its way to flaunt these goals.

Viñoly Helps Create a Green Roof “Learning Landscape" Prototype
Green roof system designed and provided to NYC consortium led by Rafael Viñoly Architects
A rooftop “learning landscape” is a research tool not only for Rafael Viñoly Architects, which is helping to spearhead the team project, but also for the students and teachers at a Bronx high school who have completed the 16 x 16-foot prototype for a green roof on top of their building. The model is intended to be a forerunner of a 20,000-square-foot project that will transform the concrete surface of the school’s roof into a living laboratory for hands-on study. Among its innovations is a structural system designed by Joe Hagerman, Rafael Viñoly Architects' first research fellow. Rafael Viñoly Architects is providing continuing pro bono services for the venture.
