Relationships with city officials help get program going
Architects in the Making (AIM) architecture and design summer day camps, sponsored by the AIA Miami and the cities of Miami and Hialeah park and recreation departments, are helping to develop an appreciation for the making of architecture among young people in South Florida. This year’s program engaged 60 students, spanning ages 8 to 14, in a study of buildings, green design, and computer-aided technology. The summer camp, in its second year, introduced students not ordinarily exposed to the design field a chance to get their minds around the principles of drawing, scale, and typologies and get their hands dirty (well, sandy) at an end-of-session sand castle competition.

EPN Issues Call for Advisory Committee

The AIA Educator/Practitioner Network invites self-nominations from educators and/or practitioners to join the EPN Advisory Committee for a four-year term, beginning in January 2009. The committee plans programs and events to integrate education and practice for the professional preparation of architects. The EPN meets twice yearly and communicates by conference call throughout the year. Expenses for committee meetings and activities are paid by the AIA. A committee member may be nominated to serve as chair in their third year. Guidelines for consideration of candidates are posted on the EPN Web page. The EPN will recommend candidates for one open position on the committee; appointments will be made by 2009 AIA President Marvin Malecha, FAIA.
