Architects Collaborate on Lisbon Research and Clinical Center
At the place where the Tagus River joins the Atlantic Ocean, and on a site rife with symbolism as the point from which Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama embarked on his journey around the cape of Africa, a new cancer center will chart a new course for groundbreaking translational research and collaborative clinical care. The Champalimaud Foundation has commissioned Charles Correa Associates as design architect, in collaboration with RMJM Hillier as laboratory and clinical design architects, and Consiste as architect of record, for the design of a 50,000-square-meter research facility and outpatient cancer center.

An Airport for All Channels a Nation’s Fascination with Flight
Rafael Vinoly’s Carrasco International Airport in Uruguay redefines who an airport is for.
Carrasco International Airport drastically revises typical airport circulation patterns by accommodating Uruguayans’ exuberant enthusiasm for air travel. Vinoly’s design leaves an abundance of space for visitors who are accompanying travelers, in the hopes of creating an engaging and vibrant place. The terminal is covered in a dramatic and iconic curved roof that is supported by an elegantly light v-column and truss frame that adds to the atmosphere of fluid and dynamic travel by way of its lightness and buoyancy.
