• Private-sector architects who design architecturally distinguished public facilities
• Public-sector architects or agencies who manage or produce high-quality design

2002 ACSA/AIA Teachers' Seminar Explores Leadership Models for Architects
"The Architecture of Engagement: Civic Engagement and the Architectural Profession," the 2002 ACSA/AIA Teachers' Seminar, takes place July 19–22 at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Participants will engage in a series of presentations, symposia, conversations, and workshops designed to broaden and deepen an understanding of the role of the architect in society. Full Story

Obituaries
C. William "Bill" Brubaker, FAIA, died of Parkinson's disease May 25 in Evanston, Ill. He was 75. William J. (Bill) Tangye, chief executive officer of the International Codes Council (ICC) and of the Southern Building Code Congress International (SBCCI), died of cancer June 1. He was 57. Full Story

The Center for Construction and Environment (CCE) invites entries to the Gainesville Eco-History Trail landscape design competition, sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts New Public Works Program and the City of Gainesville and open to any architecture, landscape architecture, and/or planning firm.

Among other sustainability criteria, the competition calls for entrants to "use native plants and create opportunities for urban wildlife." Courtesy of the Center for Construction and Environment.The site is a two-mile-long rail trail through the historic urban core of Gainesville, Fla. The competition and rail trail project will be the subject of a video documentary. The winning designer receives the right to negotiate a contract for implementation. Prize money will be awarded to first-, second-, and third-place entries, and the top five designs will be featured in a month-long exhibit and hardcopy catalogue. The deadline for entries is July 19.
