2002 ACSA/AIA Teachers' Seminar Explores
Leadership Models for Architects
Practitioners, educators to share insights July 19–22 at Cranbrook Academy

"The Architecture of Engagement: Civic Engagement and the Architectural Profession," the 2002 ACSA/AIA Teachers' Seminar, takes place July 19–22 at the Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Participants will engage in a series of presentations, symposia, conversations, and workshops designed to broaden and deepen an understanding of the role of the architect in society. The seminar aims to provoke consideration and discussion about leadership models for architects in the academy, community, political arena, and business world.

This conference will bring together educators and practitioners to address the crucial intersection behind theory and practice, as they explore:
• Architects as University Leaders, with speaker James F. Barker, FAIA, president, Clemson University
• Architects as Political Leaders, with Ambassador Richard N. Swett, FAIA
• Architects as Community Leaders, with Stephen Vogel, FAIA, dean, University of Detroit Mercy School of Architecture
• Architects as Professional Leaders, with Maxine Griffith, executive director, Philadelphia Planning Commission.

Harris Steinberg, AIA, Steinberg and Stevens Architects (representing the AIA), and Maurice Cox, University of Virginia (representing ACSA), are the conference cochairs.

ACSA/AIA Teachers' Seminar participants are eligible for 18.5 AIA/CES learning units.
