AIA Design Assistance Team Reports Available Electronically
The AIA Communities by Design web site now features digital copies of all the existing reports from the 1960s to the present of both the Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team (R/UDAT) program and the Sustainable Design Assistance Team SDAT program. R/UDAT and SDAT are AIA programs that assist communities in their planning.
AIA Partners with ICC to Develop a Green Construction Code
With sustainability capturing the attention of state and local elected officials nationally, the International Code Council (ICC) has partnered with the AIA and American Society of Testing and Materials to co-author a green building code for new and existing commercial construction. Entitled the “International Green Construction Code: Safe and Sustainable By the Book,” the initiative is committed to developing a model building code focused heavily on building design and performance, recognizing that buildings consume approximately 40 percent of the energy used in the U.S. and produce about the same amount of the nation’s carbon emissions.
Sustainable Assessment Team Envisions Leaner, Greener Detroit
The AIA’s Communities by Design Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) has issued its final report of recommendations for the Detroit SDAT project proposal, “Detroit Motorcity: Infrastructure NOW.” The Detroit SDAT proposal calls for sustainable initiatives throughout Detroit that would contribute to improving its economy. The Communities by Design final report, “Leaner, Greener Detroit,” provides an action plan for Detroit to implement those initiatives.
Clark Manus Reinforces to Mayors: Architects Know Sustainability
When issues of sustainability reach their desks, mayors should look to AIA members for guidance, AIA Vice President Clark Manus, FAIA, told the U.S. Conference of Mayors Sustainable Development Task Force at the conference’s 77th annual meeting in Providence, R.I., in mid-June. |
