AIA New Hampshire Announces Annual Excellence in Architecture Awards
AIA New Hampshire recently announced three honor award-winning and three merit award-winning projects at its 25th annual awards banquet. Additionally, to mark their 25th anniversary of the awards program, the chapter established a 25-Year Award, which recognizes architectural design of enduring significance on a project that has stood the test of time for 25 to 35 years. The project had to be located in New Hampshire, completed between 1974 and 1984, and designed by an architect licensed in New Hampshire at the time of completion.
A New Breed of Bomb Squad Building
California-based WWCOT designed the new Metro Bomb Squad facility in downtown Los Angeles, certified LEED® Silver. The two-story, 23,000-square-foot building incorporates an industrial persona to integrate with its surroundings. The facility serves the Metro Bomb Squad and hazardous materials components of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), as well as the LAX bomb squads. The client for the project was the City of Los Angeles, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Engineering.

Thoughtful changes and a dedicated client yield huge returns
Hunter Industries in San Marcos, Calif., recently earned LEED® Gold for its corporate headquarters and distribution facility in the San Diego suburb. Though LEED Gold buildings are increasingly common, this project is set apart by how the company and architect applied simple, yet thoughtful changes in process to deliver a big box building that represents the purpose of the company, uses less energy, and benefits the community.
