Military Advanced Training Center Rehabilitates the Whole BodyNew physical therapy lab puts soldiers back together, function by function, injury by injury
Ellerbe Becket’s Military Advanced Training Center in Washington, D.C., offers soldiers recovering from amputee wounds suffered in Iraq and Afghanistan a variety of state-of the-art environmental simulators and gait-monitoring systems that help them regain their former abilities and re-enter civilian life. Spurred on by a rapid design and construction schedule, upcoming base closings, a modest budget, and the technically intricate and functional nature of the site, the architects opted for a simple and bare bones design.

Check Out the New Small Firms Resource FinderTo help those in smaller firms find the resources they need, the AIA has created a one-stop web page that consolidates relevant Institute and other content. The links to small-firm information now are in one place on the Institute’s Web site and include appropriate AIA Knowledge Communities and Soloso content, as well as links to the IRS, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and business journals. The site also offers podcasts, profiles of award-winning smaller projects, events of special interest, and tools to contact both the AIA and other small-firm practitioners. To introduce the site and gather suggestions and feedback, the AIA will hold a drawing November 1 for an Apple iPod Touch. To enter, visit the Small Firms Resource Center, explore the site, and use the suggestion link to submit ideas to add value to this new initiative. The e-mail addresses of those who respond will form the pool for the drawing. The AIA will add new tools to the site in the near future based on your feedback.
