Putting the Pieces Together: Harlem Park
Harlem Park isn’t just part of the neighborhood, it is the neighborhood
Swanke Hayden Connell Architect’s Harlem Park tower assembles the modular forms of the low-rise neighborhood it sits in to create a skyscraper that does not express its mass vertically. This is the first high-rise office tower to be built in Harlem in 30 years, and its developer hopes it will become a trademark branding building for the neighborhood.

Townhome Development Incorporates Old-World Density
Seattle suburb embracing New Urbanist ideals
To take advantage of glorious views overlooking Lake Sammamish and Cougar Mountain in Issaquah, Wash., Mahlum Architects plans to cascade a new 80-unit townhome development down a 60-foot slope for developer The Dwelling Company. Although the design is decidedly Modern, the layering of townhomes down the slope will evoke the feeling of an historic Italian hill town in this east of Seattle bedroom community.

Design for NASA’s Exploration Sciences Building Takes Flight
New NASA Goddard Space Flight Center facility will house NASA research and feature sustainable, neighborhood design
NASA held a groundbreaking in July for its new Exploration Sciences Building at the space agency’s 1,300-acre Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The new 265,000-square-foot building will feature three office levels and two lab levels and is Phase One of a multimillion dollar campus master plan. Philadelphia-based EwingCole’s sustainable neighborhood design of the project encourages collaboration among NASA scientists and researchers. The building exceeds ASHRAE energy standards and is slated for LEED® Silver certification when complete in 2009.
