AIA Wisconsin Honors Seven Projects
Seven building projects were recently recognized for excellence in architectural design by the 2009 Design Awards program of AIA Wisconsin. This year’s award-winning architecture reflects diverse projects, including a sushi restaurant, a condo development welcome center, private residences, a hospital, a transportation center, and a national headquarters building. The projects were honored for their creative, contemporary, innovative, and environmentally sensitive design solutions. Three projects received Honor Awards for overall design excellence and four projects received Merit Awards for excellence in particular aspects of project design.
Global Design Contest Seeks Architects’ Insights, Visions
Palo Alto-Calif.-based HP has partnered with Barcelona-based Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IaaC) to sponsor a global architectural design contest aimed at emerging and professional architects and designers. The theme of the competition is “THE SELF-SUFFICIENT CITY: Envisioning the habitat of the future.” The competition hopes to promote online discussion and research to generate insights, visions, ideas, and proposals for 21st century habitats.
A Tribute to Arthur Erickson
Arthur Erickson, FAIA, who died May 20 in his home city of Vancouver after a lengthy decline in health due to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, “died in peace,” says nephew Geoff Erickson, “surrounded by loving family and fantastic friends from all over the world.”
