Pace of Decline in Billings Continues to Slow, Inquiries Are Up
Midwest and West report stabilizing conditions
The Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score remained below 50 in August, but the score of 47.6 indicates that conditions may be moderating, according to AIA Economics and Markets Research Manager Jennifer Riskus. Inquiries were above 50 for the third month in a row. Firms located in the Midwest and West are reporting that business conditions are stabilizing and billings continue to grow for firms with an institutional specialization. Backlogs at architecture firms currently average 5.1 months but are nearly two months longer for large firms.

Greenstep Video #6 Explains the Whole Building
Approach
Two-minute programs augment the Institute’s Walk the Walk campaign
On September 8, the AIA launched the sixth of 12 short video episodes for architects to share with clients who want to plan a new building or renovate an existing one using green building principles. “The Whole Building Approach” explains to clients how considering a building as an energy-conserving, green “whole” can achieve energy and money savings beyond the sum of individual system parts. The video series resides on the “Walk the Walk” Web site, and new videos will appear biweekly. Check it out and share with your clients.
