Call for Self-Nominations: AIA Diversity Committee
Turn in your resume and letter of interest by June 20
Summary: The AIA Diversity Committee is seeking self-nominations for new members to serve a two-year term starting in January 2008. Appointments are made by the incoming AIA president of the Institute, based on recommendations by current members of the committee.
The AIA Diversity Committee strives to expand the diversity of the design professions to:
- Mirror the society that we serve
- Promote awareness of the contributions of architects from under-represented racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, age or disability groups
- Encourage alternatives to traditional practice models
- Provide opportunities for an ever-greater variety of individuals to become architects, take advantage of leadership opportunities, and influence our practices and our professional lives.
Diversity Committee members are actively involved in executing programs that foster committee goals, developing strategies that help diversify the membership of the AIA and the profession itself. They serve as resources to the various AIA components and Knowledge Communities to create their own diversity programs.
AIA Diversity Committee members are expected to:
- Be available each month for a one-hour conference call
- Attend one or two in-person 1.5-day meetings a year (dates and locations TBD); meetings are partially funded by the AIA
- Attend the AIA national convention, including the Diversity Committee Business Meeting and all Diversity Committee-sponsored events
- Be open to representing the AIA Diversity Committee at additional meetings during the year.
If you are a driven and committed individual who is interested in joining this dynamic committee to help promote inclusiveness in the profession, submit a resume and letter of intent by June 20. Application materials may be sent via fax to 202-626-7527 or via e-mail diversity@aia.org. Should you have any questions, please e-mail diversity@aia.org.
