First LEED certified McDonald’s franchise makes fast food sustainable
Adams+Associates Architecture of Mooresville, N.C., completed the first LEED®-certified McDonald’s by adapting the omnipresent fast food franchise into a low-carbon footprint structure made of recycled and local materials and that maximizes natural light. It’s located in Abercorn Common, the first all-LEED certified shopping center.
NCARB Survey Indicates 112,650 Registered Architects in the U.S.
On average, most architects licensed in two jurisdictions
The 2007 survey of state architectural registration boards by the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), released May 11, indicates that there are currently 112,650 registered architects in the U.S. This year’s findings reflect a 4.5 percent increase over the prior year in NCARB’s fifth annual survey. NK Architects’ Hungry Plant Takes Top CANstruction® Prize
“Audrey II: Feed Me” created by NK Architects, Jersey City, N.J., was proclaimed “Jurors’ Favorite” at the 11th annual International CANstruction® Competition juried May 3 in conjunction with the AIA 2007 National Convention in San Antonio. CANstruction, administered by the Society for Design Administration (SDA) and held in conjunction with AIA state and local chapters and allied professional organizations, is an annual charity competition in which design firms vie to see who can build the most astounding structure made entirely of full cans of food. All of the food used in the structures then is donated to local food banks. Structures are self-supporting, and the only other materials permitted are cardboard and fasteners.
