Growing Green at Conservatory, Botanical Garden Welcome Center
IKM Architects’ Welcome Center at the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh opened last year, providing for city residents and visitors a grand new entry to the beloved Lord and Burnham Victorian greenhouse, originally erected in 1893. The architects and conservatory officials call Phipps the most “energy-efficient conservatory in the world.”

Boston-Area Architecture Community Donates 40,000 Cans of Food to Greater Boston Food Bank
Last week, 17 Boston-area architecture and design firms designed sculptures out of a combined total of 40,000 cans of food as part of CANSTRUCTION®, a national community-service project held in 40 cities across the country. All of the food will be donated to the Greater Boston Food Bank when the exhibit leaves the library November 10. The Society for Design Administration’s CANSTRUCTION program partners at the local level with AIA chapters and other professional allied organizations to produce the competitions.

UCSD’s Biomedical Library Expansion by Pfeiffer Partners Opens
Pfeiffer Partners’ renovation and expansion of the Biomedical Library at the University of California, San Diego, now complete, includes a 41,000-square-foot addition that more than doubles the size of the existing library and incorporates a wide range of technologies and collaborative learning spaces to serve today’s students and scientists.
