Welcome New Advisory Group Leaders

Alexis Denton

Alexis Denton, AIA, holds a BA in Architecture from UC Berkeley and a Master's degree in Architecture from the University of Southern California. A licensed architect in the state of California, she works in the San Francisco office of SmithGroupJJR where she focuses on programming, planning, and designing senior living communities. While in graduate school at USC, Alexis combined the disciplines of gerontology and architecture, working as a researcher and teaching assistant in the Davis School of Gerontology. She was mentored by some of the most prominent environmental gerontology researchers in the country. Alexis is completing her coursework for an additional Master’s degree in Gerontology from USC which she plans to complete in May 2012. Alexis is focused on combining the latest trends and research in both the fields of Architecture and Gerontology in designing meaningful buildings and experiences for seniors.

Tim Mueller

As President of SFCS Inc., Tim Mueller, AIA, LEED AP has over 28 years of experience and is responsible for overseeing a broad range of design, marketing, and management issues. His designs include CCRC campus plans, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory support environments and mixed-use senior housing developments. Tim has a specific focus on designing holistic environments for seniors, addressing the needs of mind, body and spirit. On specific projects, he is responsible for working with the clients to shape their vision and goals and help the design team translate them into innovative, quality environments that meet the needs of the residents. In addition, projects designed by Tim Mueller have received recognition from AIA/AAHSAs Design for Aging and Long Term Care Magazine. In his commitment to improving the lives of seniors, Tim has spoken both nationally and internationally to share new and innovative trends on care-giver issues, sustainable systems design, culture change, and dementia care.

During its deliberations, the Jury of two providers and two architects for cycle #10 reviewed a group of 92 submitted projects that were distinct in their number as well as quality. Those deliberations rendered seventeen awards: 14 Merit Awards and 3 Special Recognitions. This edition includes the seventeen awarded projects notes above as well as nineteen others deemed by the Jury worthy of publication for a total of 36 projects.
