  A Shorter Crop of Winners in Council of Tall Buildings Annual Contest
Last year, the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) made the bewildering discovery that building heights were still rocketing upward, even in the midst of a global economic crisis. This year, the crisis remains, but rising heights of award-winning buildings do not. This year’s Best Tall Building awards are smaller, more modest, and comparatively humble. Only one pierces 50 stories.

The AIA Communities by Design Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) is reviewing the SDAT Indianapolis application for creating a sustainable district within the city.

Energy Center of Wisconsin Offers Two Free Webcasts in August
The Energy Center of Wisconsin, a nonprofit that produces energy-efficiency research and education programs, is offering free viewing of two Webcasts in the month of August. The Webcasts are designed for architects, engineers, builders, remodelers, energy consultants, and others interested in high-performance and energy-efficient buildings.

AIA National Staff on Furlough, Online Support Available
The national component staff will be on furlough and their offices closed August 3 through 8:30 a.m. EDT on Monday, August 10. AIArchitect will not be published August 7. Self-service, online support is available.
