Perkins+Will Offering 2030e2 Energy Measurement Tool
Architecture giant Perkins+Will has developed an online tool to help project teams set energy mix goals toward the 2030 Commitment, which calls for an immediate drop in carbon emissions of buildings by 50 percent in the following year and total carbon neutrality by 2030. The Perkins+Will tool allows one to enter a building’s location and energy-source information to determine its goals toward that end.

The Prognosis of the Architecture Business in Health Care
The National Coalition of Health Care recently reported that in 2008 American health-care spending represented 17 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP), and by 2017, Americans will spend $4.3 trillion—or 20 percent of GDP—on health care. Demonstrating a continually increasing demand for patient care and treatment, these numbers are also a testament to why the architecture business in the health-care sector continues to maintain a relatively steady and positive outlook. After all, quality health care and facilities are—and always will be—a necessity.

Integrated Project Delivery and BIM: Changing the Way the Industry Operates
In recent years, thought leaders in the construction industry have advocated for greater collaboration among project stakeholders to improve efficiency, reduce waste, minimize disputes, and generally improve the quality of the process and the predictability of project outcomes. Products that allow for the free exchange of digital data are seen as essential tools for promoting greater collaboration. The AIA is playing a key leadership role in advancing collaborative processes such as integrated project delivery (IPD) and the sharing of digital data, especially through the use of building information modeling (BIM).
