Three Outstanding Associate Members Honored
Architecture graduates from New York City, Chicago, and central Illinois earned this year’s AIA Associate Award and will be honored at the AIA 2009 National Convention and Design Exposition in San Francisco. Venesa Alicea, Assoc. AIA; Adam Ferrari, Assoc. AIA; and Douglas Milburn, Assoc. AIA, have distinguished themselves as talented and exemplary leaders within the profession.

The Five Cent Architect: A Creative Client Connection
After being laid off twice during the current downturn, architecture graduate John Morefield set up a booth at a Seattle farmer’s market offering design advice for a nickel. He explains how it draws people in, gives them an appreciation of the potential of good design, and creates a connection with possible clients. This 18-minute podcast interview with Associate Editor Russell Boniface reveals how Morefield came up with his concept, where he thinks it will go next, and what kinds of questions people hit him with on a regular basis.

J. Max Bond Jr., FAIA, Dies at 73
Principal of Davis Brody Bond Aedas and 1987 AIA Whitney Young Jr. Award Recipient J. Max Bond, FAIA died February 18 in New York City. The man of whom Stanford Britt, FAIA described as“a demanding, innovative professional whose tenacity, intellect, and dedication make him a leader and servant of his community,” succumbed to cancer.
