Study Tour: From 1910 to 2008—A Century of Bay Area Sacred Places

Join the Interfaith Forum of Religious Art and Architect members for their 2009 tour of sacred buildings and places in San Francisco on April 29, 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. when they will study three diverse religious buildings and one sacred place in the San Francisco Bay area. The focus will be on providing a balance of significant old and new places that represent different faiths, building types, and settings. The tour locations will be Bernard Maybeck's First Church of Christ, Scientist, Mountain View Cemetery, the Cathedral of Christ the Light by Craig Hartman/SOM, and Congregation Beth Sholom by Stanley Saitowitz/Natoma Architects, Inc. In addition to the guided tour, participants will take part in a panel discussion that will include Craig Hartman and members of the design team and the church, moderated by Richard S. Vosko, PhD, Hon. AIA. (Note: There will be no continuing education credit given for this tour.) Visit aiaconvention.com for more information or to register for the AIA convention and the tour. If you are not attending the convention and are interested in attending the tour, visit the IFRAA Web site.

Join the AIA Public Architects for a Training Workshop at Convention
Join other public-sector architects from all levels of government for a training workshop to discuss public architecture business and practice on April 29, in conjunction with the AIA National Convention in San Francisco. The one-day workshop will explore the roles and responsibilities of architects who are involved in the design of public buildings, as well as some of the latest ideas in public architecture. Concurrent sessions allow attendees to customize their learning experience by focusing on three main themes: planning, BIM and integrated practice, and case studies. To attend this workshop, you must register for the AIA National Convention as an “06 Public Architect.” Registration in this category includes full convention registration, the Public Architects Training Workshop (including lunch), and a ticket to the AIA Corporate Architects and Facility Management Networking Reception. Visit the Public Architects Web site for details.
