Letters to the Editor

Summary: This week, we explain why we publish ethics violations. We also have a nice letter about Jim Atkin’s Il Duomo series and a challenge to any of our readers who are in love with a building and want to write about it.

Re: Member Suspended for Violating AIA Code of Ethics

Ed. note: Last week, several readers voiced concern over our publication of the notice that the AIA National Ethics Council had voted to suspend for three years the membership of an architect who had violated the AIA Code of Ethics by performing services without a valid license. Most readers who e-mailed us thought we should not have published the notice because the violation, in their opinions, was “trivial.”

First, we would like to remind our readers that we are obliged by the AIA Bylaws to publish those decisions of the National Ethics Council.

Second, please don’t shoot the messengers—we’re your messengers. We love to hear from you, but please keep the name-calling and personal insults to an absolute minimum. Thanks!

Re: Il Duomo: Brunelleschi and the Dome of Santa Maria del Fiore

I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed reading this insightful series of articles. I have looked forward to each new episode and have never been disappointed by the content. I would like to see the idea continued as a permanent feature of AIArchitect featuring other notable historic buildings. Many thanks for a job well done!

Ed. note: We would be very interested in publishing a series of articles on other historic buildings. If anyone out there is interested in producing such a series (you wouldn’t have to write it all yourself!), please contact AIArchitect Managing Editor Stephanie Stubbs.
