Glenn Marcus Murcutt, Hon. FAIA, Selected for 2009 AIA Gold Medal
The AIA Board of Directors selected Glenn Marcus Murcutt, Hon. FAIA, to receive the 2009 AIA Gold Medal. The Board honored Murcutt for the depth of his work and the breadth of his influence, which echoes well beyond his native Australia.

2009 Architecture Firm Award Goes to Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen
Olson Sundberg Kundig Allen Architects received the 2009 AIA Architecture Firm Award on December 4. The AIA Board of Directors voted to award the firm based on its 35 years of consistently excellent work, including its seamless blending of architecture, art, and craft; community involvement; attention to sustainable design; and nurturing of in-house talent.

2009 Topaz Medallion Goes to Adèle Santos, FAIA
Adèle Naudé Santos, dean of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture + Planning, is the 2009 AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion recipient. She will be awarded the medallion at the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture (ACSA) Annual Meeting in Portland, Ore., March 26–29, 2009. The AIA will recognize her at the 2009 National Convention in San Francisco April 30–May 2.

AIA Launches Rebuild and Renew America Program to Offer Assistance to Obama White House, Raise Architects’ Public Profile
Under the banner of a new “Rebuild and Renew America” program, the AIA has offered to assist President-elect Barack Obama in advancing his goals of promoting green buildings and focusing on the needs of urban areas. As a key player in the last “Greening of the White House” initiative in the 1990s, the AIA has also recommended making 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue an international model of energy efficiency.
