CBT Unites Social and Environmental Responsibility in Habitat for Humanity Project

Construction began earlier this month on a new home for South Shore Habitat for Humanity in Stoughton, Mass., thanks in part to CBT Architects, who donated the design and a substantial contribution to the construction costs for the house in honor of the Boston firm’s 40th Anniversary. Structural engineering firm McNamara Salvia and landscape architects Copley Wolff also have donated their design time and talent to the project. Building on the idea of the standard Habitat bungalow, CBT’s clean, Modern design offers the perception of a larger living space as well as a focus on sustainability in three areas: individual and community welfare, conservation and regeneration, and energy. "CBT's design has us rethinking our approach on how we build going forward. By helping us to understand that a green house can be affordable, we will be more prepared to do the right thing for the communities where we build and for the environment," says Jerry McDermott, the executive director of South Shore Habitat for Humanity, in a press release. "CBT's Habitat House is about building a smart, green future home that helps us envision a new standard in best practices incorporating sustainable building strategies."
