  Housing Symposium to Tackle Innovations for Affordability
Join the Housing and Custom Residential (H&CR) Knowledge Community, the Association for Community Design, and AIA Arizona on October 3–5 in Phoenix for “Innovations and Collaborations in Housing Affordability,” a symposium focusing on innovative and collaborative efforts that are tackling housing affordability and creating thriving residential developments and communities. Presentations and workshops at the symposium will address topics such as mixed-income developments, design and advocacy, sustainable and inclusive design for affordable housing, and housing design education in the schools, among others. A half day of tours to residential sites that illustrate the ideas and issues covered in the symposium will take place on the final day. Participants will be eligible to earn up to 10 AIA Continuing Education System (CES) learning units. For more information or to register, visit the H&CR Web site.

Interiors Committee Releases Significant Interiors
The AIA Interiors Committee invites you to take a look at their new book, Significant Interiors (AIA/Images Publishing Group, 2008), which features award-winning interiors by notable architecture and design firms. The AIA selected 55 projects, based on creativity and innovation, and presents them in a fresh, reader-friendly format. Winning projects are featured with detailed commentary, plans, captions, and color photographs. Projects include: International Terminal at the San Francisco International Airport, San Francisco, by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill; Detroit Opera House, Detroit, by Albert Kahn Associates, Inc.; Chicago Tribune Pressroom, by Perkins + Will; and First Presbyterian Church of Encino, Calif., by Abramson Teiger Architects.
