The Role of the Architect as a Regulator

Codes & Standards Committee Chair Henry A. Kosarzycki, AIA observes in the Member-to-Member article that at times, architects and AIA members may become complacent about building codes, developing a sense of comfort or security based on the perception that someone else “with an interest in codes” is representing our profession and interests. Kosarzycki notes, however, that he has spent more than 10 years observing the architect’s diminishing role amidst an unprecedented rise in codes and standard development.

IDP Outstanding Firm Award: Call For Entries
The IDP Outstanding Firm Awards Program invites you to send in your entry by July 15. This program honors firm principals who choose to make it a priority to nurture their interns on the path to licensure. The IDP Outstanding Firm Awards Program was expanded in January 2008: firms employing interns who meet 12 essential criteria (listed in the submission form) will be honored with the “IDP Firm Award,” while firms that meet the 12 criteria and demonstrate excellence in three or more categories will receive the “IDP Outstanding Firm Award.” For more information, including the list of criteria and submission materials visit AIA.org.
