Every Voice Is Part of the Song
In his first presentation for AIArchitect, AIA President Marshall Purnell, FAIA, muses about the distinct thaw in the air as something bigger, something more profound than the weather is heating up. Architects, he says, are stepping up to their rightful roles in creating sustainability and diversity in the profession and the environment. Read the story. Watch the video.

Online Submission for 2008 COTE Top Ten Green Projects Extended to February 14
COTE Gives a Special Valentine to Green Buildings
The AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) is continuing to accept online submissions for the 2008 COTE Top Ten Green Projects awards program. Since 1996, this juried recognition program has celebrated the best in sustainable design. The program requirements are unique and require narrative descriptions as well as performance metrics. This unusual set of requirements is part of the program’s recognition of the importance of qualitative and quantitative elements of sustainable design. These COTE measures and metrics of sustainable design are a framework for a holistic understanding of sustainable design. The 2008 jury for the AIA/COTE Top Ten Green Projects awards program includes architects, educators, and a student. The deadline to submit projects has been extended to February 14, 2008. For more information about the Top Ten Green Projects and to submit a project for consideration, visit the COTE Web site. Pictured is the Wayne L. BSA Offers Scholarships to Young Professionals for 2008 AIA National Convention Travel, Registration
The AIA national convention is particularly enriched when young professionals participate, but many people just starting their careers find the cost of travel, registration, accommodations, and time away from work prohibitive. A new scholarship program conceived by the Boston Society of Architects and supported by the AIA, assists young professionals who otherwise would not be able to attend. Travel scholarships of up to $500 may be awarded to 100 or more individuals through the BSA program, and individuals who receive travel scholarships also enjoy free convention registration through the AIA. Firms, schools, AIA chapters, and others supporting the participation of students and young professionals through direct travel assistance are listed as sponsors, as are companies contributing to the AIA Convention Young Professionals Scholarship Fund. Applications are due February 22. For details, including applications and sponsorship information, visit the BSA Web site. (Photo courtesy of the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau.)
