  Soloso.aia.org Is Here!
Become part of the premier knowledge resource custom built for architects
On September 25, the AIA launched Soloso.aia.org, the Institute’s new online resource connecting members to a continuous flow of information on trends, solutions, products, and strategies related to architecture. Soloso is a Web 2.0 site designed to facilitate knowledge-sharing and idea exchange among architects. AIA members have full access to all that Soloso offers. They can search its ever-expanding content and add to it by creating a professional profile and uploading projects, thus connecting with other AIA members and the architecture community at large to build a professional network that has the potential to help the entire architecture community grow.

Municipal Arts Society Honors Activist Jane Jacobs with a Multifaceted Program
The Municipal Art Society of New York, a private, nonprofit membership organization whose mission since 1893 has been to promote a more livable city, has launched a multifaceted project to highlighting the life and work of activist and author Jane Jacobs and the urban design principles presented in her classic The Death and Life of Great American Cities. Sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation, the project, “Jane Jacobs and the Future of New York,” applies Jacobs’ principles to contemporary New York while seeking to initiate a dialogue concerning the future of the city through an exhibit, public lectures, and a walking tour series.

You Have Spoken
And you said, “Preservation of Modernist Buildings”

In response to our September 7 poll question of “What do you think should be the theme of AIArchitect’s next ‘theme issue?’” close to 45 percent of respondents chose “Preservation of Modernist Buildings,” to be presented on December 21. Because it worked well with our first theme issue, we purposely are keeping our submission rules loosely defined—essays, projects proposed, projects completed, concept ideas, buildings in danger, needed code changes, etc. Please submit a one-page description and no more than five low-res JPEG files by e-mail to Managing Editor Stephanie Stubbs. No need to be fancy—the AIArchitect editors will develop all proposals into finished articles. All submissions must be received via e-mail by November 1. A Friendly Reminder: Awards Deadlines Are Closer Than They Appear
October brings falling leaves, a brisk nip to the chill air, and a slew of AIA awards submissions deadlines. Check this list for the specific deadlines for submissions of nominations for the Whitney M. Young Jr. Award, Edward C. Kemper Award, Young Architects Award, Honorary Fellowship, Fellowship, AIA/ACSA Topaz Medallion for Excellence in Architectural Education, and the new AIA Associates Award.
