The Ethics of Handling a Client’s Funds

Nearly every year, the AIA National Ethics Council receives complaints from members’ clients who claim that an architect mishandled client fees or other funds. This situation may raise an ethical issue under more than one Rule of Conduct in the Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. In this addition to a series of redacted decisions made available to members and the public, the council considered a case involving a home renovation project. To view the decision, click here.

The AIA Code of Ethics applies to the professional activities of all classes of members. For more information on the code and the National Ethics Council, click here. To see other redacted decisions of the National Ethics Council, click here.
