  Which Architecture Firms Are Using BIM? Why?
AIA Research Specialist Jennifer Riskus tells us that as of 2006, 16 percent of AIA member-owned architecture firms have acquired building information modeling (BIM) software, and 64 percent of these firms are using BIM for billable work, according to the 2006 AIA Firm Survey. Firms using building information modeling indicate that it is primarily being used for design development, schematic design, and construction documentation phases. What are the characteristics of firms that have acquired BIM software, and how do they differ from firms that have not yet obtained the software?

The Ethics of Handling a Client’s Fund
Nearly every year, the AIA National Ethics Council receives complaints from members’ clients who claim that an architect mishandled client fees or other funds. This situation may raise an ethical issue under more than one Rule of Conduct in the Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. In this addition to a series of redacted decisions made available to members and the public, the council considered a case involving a home renovation project.
