AMD, Architecture for Humanity Establish $250,000 Open Architecture Prize
Competition for developing-world tech center launches later this year
Integrated-circuit supplier Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Architecture
for Humanity on May 12 announced the first ”Open Architecture
Prize,” which will award $250,000 toward the winning design
in an open competition to develop technology centers in the developing
world. The prize calls for design of a sustainable technology facility
and community center that incorporates a centralized building equipped
with Internet connectivity solutions that enable an entire community
to access the Internet. The competition will be developed with a
local community partner for a specific site and community. The prize
money will be used to implement the winning scheme. The designs will
also be part of AMD’s 50x15 initiative, which has a goal of “connecting
50 percent of the world's population to the Internet by 2015." The
competition is set to launch later this year. You must to be an Open
