AMD, Architecture for Humanity Establish $250,000 Open Architecture Prize
Competition for developing-world tech center launches later this year

Integrated-circuit supplier Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Architecture for Humanity on May 12 announced the first ”Open Architecture Prize,” which will award $250,000 toward the winning design in an open competition to develop technology centers in the developing world. The prize calls for design of a sustainable technology facility and community center that incorporates a centralized building equipped with Internet connectivity solutions that enable an entire community to access the Internet. The competition will be developed with a local community partner for a specific site and community. The prize money will be used to implement the winning scheme. The designs will also be part of AMD’s 50x15 initiative, which has a goal of “connecting 50 percent of the world's population to the Internet by 2015." The competition is set to launch later this year. You must to be an Open Architecture Network member to participate. To join, visit the Web site.
