  2007 Call for Entries: National Award for Smart Growth Achievement
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is now accepting applications for the sixth annual National Award for Smart Growth Achievement. This competition is open to public-sector entities that have used smart growth principles to improve communities environmentally, socially, and economically. Applications are due April 3.

AMD, Architecture for Humanity Establish $250,000 Open Architecture Prize
Competition for developing-world tech center launches later this year
Integrated-circuit supplier Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) and Architecture for Humanity on May 12 announced the first ”Open Architecture Prize,” which will award $250,000 toward the winning design in an open competition to develop technology centers in the developing world. The prize calls for design of a sustainable technology facility and community center that incorporates a centralized building equipped with Internet connectivity solutions that enable an entire community to access the Internet. The competition will be developed with a local community partner for a specific site and community. The prize money will be used to implement the winning scheme. The designs will also be part of AMD’s 50x15 initiative, which has a goal of “connecting 50 percent of the world's population to the Internet by 2015." AIA Education Honor Award Projects Highlight Housing Prototypes, Building Technology, Visioning Transit
The AIA on March 9 announced the three recipients of the 2007 AIA Education Honor Awards for excellence in course development and architectural teaching. The Education Honor Awards program, now in its 18th year, recognizes collegiate faculty achievements and contributions to education and the discipline of architecture. This year’s winning projects hale from the University of Virginia, Iowa State University, and the University of Arkansas/the Washington University in St. Louis.
