New Practice Management Podcasts Present Knowledge Transfer and Leadership Transition Info

Summary: Want to gain some useful professional knowledge in a fun and easy way? Try the new AIA Practice Management podcasts, which are downloadable to your mp3 player, desktop, or laptop from the AIA PodNet: the Architecture Knowledge Review Podcast Series. Programs are free, about 15 minutes long, downloadable with one click of the mouse via XML, iTunes, and MP3. (So easy a fossil over the age of 30 can do it.)

In the “Train, Retain, and Transfer Project Knowledge” podcast, Cliff S. Moser, AIA, Practice Management Advisory Group member and principal of RTKL’s Health-Care Studio in Los Angeles, explains handling of project skills and knowledge using concepts from the Training Within Industry, a program popular during World War II. Through a discussion with moderator Michael Strogoff, AIA, Moser also details the use of Lean Enterprise Strategies in architecture. Related downloadable forms are available.

Moser and Strogoff turn the tables for the “Leadership Transition” podcast when they present the key issues architecture firms should consider when implementing an ownership and leadership transition plan. They discuss:

  • What to look for when identifying future leaders
  • What prospective owners need to consider
  • How to ensure that transitions are successful after you leave.

Strogoff also provides valuable guidelines for successful mergers and acquisitions.
