Three More Reasons to Visit San Antonio
See what the natives recommend
Everyone knows about the Riverwalk and the Alamo (remember, the Alamo?), but three AIA San Antonio Chapter members offer some other can’t-miss sites to see during your trip to the AIA 2007 National Convention and Design Exposition, May 3–5, in San Antonio.

Nominations Due March 12 for 2007 Associate AIA Member of the Year Award
The National Associates Committee (NAC) and the Young Architects Forum (YAF) of the AIA are now accepting nominations for the 2007 Associate AIA Member of the Year Award, the highest honor given by the NAC and YAF to an individual Associate AIA member who best exemplifies the highest qualities of leadership and has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to his or her component or region’s membership. Candidates for this award may be nominated by any AIA member or Associate AIA member in good standing. Submission forms are available online. Nominations are due March 12, 5 p.m. EDT. The recipient will receive the award at the AIA 2007 National Convention in San Antonio in May. Questions? E-mail emergingprofessionals@aia.org.

Accessibility Awareness Exercise Gives Architects a New Perspective

AIA Dallas’ accessibility awareness exercise last fall, held at its chapter office, gave 14 members the opportunity to spend a day in a wheelchair. The exercise, which included embarking to lunch while seated, gave them a different look at accessibility, both literally and figuratively. The participants discovered firsthand the challenges of wheelchair accessibility at and around an office while gleaning ideas for making spaces more accessible.
