New Year’s Resolutions
Members speak out on plans and resolutions for 2007
As the new year dawns, it’s a natural time to reflect on past performance and prepare for future growth. With that in mind, AIArchitect asked AIA members about their plans and resolutions for their firms in 2007. If the responses of these five architects are indicative of the profession, it appears that system improvements and increasing staff are very much on our minds.

Top Gun: Targeting and Resolving Problematic Issues
Anyone established in project management has at some time encountered a problem that seemingly would not go away. After multiple meetings, discussions, and attempted resolutions, the problem crept back into the project meeting and back onto the action items list, consuming valuable time and causing uncomfortable feelings to linger because the problem apparently had not been closed in the initial resolution attempt. Jim Atkins, FAIA, and Grant Simpson, FAIA, start 2007 off with their advice on how to target and resolve right away those annoying, time-killing problems.
Nominations for Secretary of the College of Fellows
The 2006 College of Fellows Nominating Committee is soliciting nominations for Secretary for 2007-2009, to be presented for consideration at the annual COF business meeting at the AIA convention in May 2007. Nominations are due by February 5, 2007.

Chief Jurist Daniel Libeskind leads the finale to The History Channel
competition to find the best 22nd-century concept among first-stage
winners for New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles. In its City
of the Future competition finale, The History Channel is turning
to the general public to judge a winner from among three finalists.
The competition—supported by the AIA to increase public awareness of the power of architectural imagination—puts head-to-head designs by Architecture Research Office, UrbanLab, and Eric Owen Moss Architects, respectively. Set in the 22nd century, the design concepts imagine a century of human innovation to meet the environmental and social problems we face today.
