King Memorial Breaks Ground in D.C.
Luminaries from the Civil Rights Movement joined President Bush and former President Clinton on the western edge of the Capital Mall Tidal Basin November 13 to honor the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the ground breaking of the King Memorial. The monument design is a joint venture between the 2000 competition winner ROMA Design Group, San Francisco, and Devrouax & Purnell, Washington, D.C.
EPA Lauds Five Smart Growth Projects
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded its 2006 National Awards for Smart Growth Achievement to five programs that use smart growth principles o improve existing communities or build new communities that expand economic development opportunities, enhance quality of life, and preserve the natural environment.
Steven Holl Architects Wins Competition with Floating Skyscraper
China-based China Vanke Co. recently award New York City-based Steven Holl Architects the design contract for its new Vanke Center, a sustainable, mixed-use “floating” complex in Shenzhen, China.
2007 Top Ten Green Awards Program Now Accepting Submissions

Registration is now open for submissions for the AIA Committee on the Environment (COTE) 2007 Top Ten Green Projects, which recognize the benefits of sustainable design and acknowledg architects as leaders in the creation of environmentally responsible design solutions.
