Tahoe Science Lab Goes for Platinum-LEED®
Sustainable laboratory is not an oxymoron
For most people, a mental image of Lake Tahoe, Nev., features water sports, casinos, and snow skiing. For a select group of students, researchers, and faculty, Lake Tahoe is the site of a sustainable, state-of-the-art laboratory and research facility for studying the importance of alpine lakes and preserving their environmental quality and clarity. Nestled among the evergreens, and mere yards from the largest alpine lake in North America, the recently completed Tahoe Center for Environmental Studies (TCES) was designed by Reno-based Lundahl and Associates and is the result of a unique partnership among many players.

Lutyens’ British Embassy Celebrates 75 Years
British Ambassador to the U.S. Sir David Manning hosted a reception October 16 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Sir Edwin Lutyens-designed British Embassy Residence on Washington, D.C.’s “Embassy Row,” on Massachusetts Avenue. Lutyens was the 1925 AIA Gold Medal recipient. Manning paid tribute to the renowned British architect, describing Lutyens as "arguably the greatest British Architect of the 20th Century."

International Architect and Harvard Professor Huson Jackson, 1913–2006
Huson Jackson, FAIA—longtime partner of Josep Lluis Sert in the iconic Sert, Jackson & Associates of Cambridge, Mass., and professor of architecture at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard from 1953 to 1970—passed over October 1 at the age of 93. Jackson led the first generation of American architects who embraced the European International Style in the 1930s and made it at home in the U.S.
