Architect at the Convention |

A reception and private screening of the Academy Award®-nominated film My Architect will be held June 10, opening night of the AIA national convention, 7-10:30 p.m. at the beautifully renovated Auditorium Theatre in downtown Chicago. Following the film, AIA members will be treated to an extended question-and-answer session with the film’s director, Nathaniel Kahn. My Architect tells “the tale of love and art, betrayal and forgiveness” through which filmmaker Nathaniel Kahn undertakes a five-year, worldwide exploration to understand his long-dead father, Louis Kahn. One of the most influential architects of the second half of the 20th century, Louis Kahn’s masterworks include the Kimball Art Museum, Yale Center for British Art, Exeter Library, Indian Institute of Management, and the Capital Complex at Dhaka, Bangladesh. The legendary AIA Gold Medalist, creator of intensely powerful and spiritual buildings, had a secretive personal life that ended abruptly in 1974. In addition to its Academy Award-nomination, My Architect received a Best Documentary nomination at the IFP Independent Spirit Awards, and Nathaniel Kahn received the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Documentary from the Director’s Guild of America.
