Update Audits for CES Compliance
by Evelyn McCamey
CES Registrar

The AIA recently audited 20 percent of the members who are at risk of losing their AIA membership because of noncompliance with CES requirements. All of these audited members should have received an information packet in the mail within the last two weeks. AIA staff have made follow-up phone calls to the audited members, and any member whom we have been unable to contact by phone will be faxed a reminder notice within the next two weeks.

If you have received an audit packet and have questions about how to complete the process, please contact the CES Registrar immediately by phone or email.

Q. I've received an audit packet. What do I do next?
A. You should contact the AIA immediately (800-242-3837.) This will let us know you've received the packet and allow us time to offer assistance. Of the members audited, only 24 percent have responded so far. Members have until September 20 to meet their 1999 AIA/CES requirements or their membership will lapse, per AIA Board-directed procedures.

Q. How does this affect state MCE requirements for my license?
A. At present, the national AIA/CES does not send lists of audited members to state licensing boards. (Members should be aware however, that if they have given out their AIA numbers to a state licensing board, board personnel may access their on-line transcripts if their policies allow.)

AIA/CES reminders:
• Any activities completed in 2000 will automatically apply toward a deficit in 1999. Members can report these 2000 activities retroactively until September 30.
• Candidates for AIA fellowship must keep up with CE requirements, as must their sponsors.
• States with mandatory CE requirements are not flexible, and they are enforcing their requirements.
• Members may self-report health, safety, and welfare credits only if the learning program is administered by an organized third party that takes responsibility for content, delivery, and reporting of the program to the AIA/CES program auditors.
