One of the convention
highlights for the Young Architects Forum was hosted an awards ceremony
and reception for the winners of their second annual design competition,
Building Community: Partnership for Affordable Housing Infill, on May
18, 2001 in Denver, CO. The Young Architects Forum, AGC's Young Constructors
Forum, and Northeast Denver Housing Center partnered to host the juried
competition in conjunction with the 2001 AIA national convention. In accordance
with the convention's theme, "Leaders and Partners in Creating Community,"
the design category focused on an urban infill project in the historic
Five Points Neighborhood of Denver. The constructor category focused on
affordable housing and community service projects. From the 37 entries,
the jurors chose two Awards of Excellence, three Awards of Merit, and
three Awards of Distinction.
