One of the convention highlights for the Young Architects Forum was hosted an awards ceremony and reception for the winners of their second annual design competition, Building Community: Partnership for Affordable Housing Infill, on May 18, 2001 in Denver, CO. The Young Architects Forum, AGC's Young Constructors Forum, and Northeast Denver Housing Center partnered to host the juried competition in conjunction with the 2001 AIA national convention. In accordance with the convention's theme, "Leaders and Partners in Creating Community," the design category focused on an urban infill project in the historic Five Points Neighborhood of Denver. The constructor category focused on affordable housing and community service projects. From the 37 entries, the jurors chose two Awards of Excellence, three Awards of Merit, and three Awards of Distinction.
