CAJ explores local court needs; CAE, sustainable futures

The AIA Committee on Architecture for Justice (CAJ), in association with the National Center for State Courts, invites you to join them for the Fourth International Conference on Courthouse Design, October 7–10 in Phoenix. The theme of this year's conference is "Affording Excellence: Addressing Court Needs at the Local Level," though which members of the justice community, architects, and planners from the U.S. and abroad will explore how justice will be delivered--and designed--in the 21st century.
The conference will focus on three key themes:
• Future role and image of the courthouse in the community
• Affordability
• International court experience.

Sustaining the future for education
At its annual fall conference, the AIA Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) will tackle the theme of "Learning Environments for a Sustainable Future" when the group gathers October 31-November 2 in New York City.

The program is based on the premise that educational environments should inspire students of all ages, backgrounds, and aspirations; be flexible to accommodate changing technologies and space needs; and sustain learners and their communities. Attendees will focus on three components of sustainable educational environments:
• Pedagogy (learning trends and the academics)
• Social (architectural attributes that encourage interaction)
• Technical (building techniques and fixtures/furnishings/equipment).
