AIA Convention Programs to Be Offered in Live Streaming Videos
The AIA 2009 National Convention and Design Exposition begins in San Francisco Thursday, April 30. Recognizing the value of the learning opportunities at this premiere gathering of architects from around the world, and that many AIA members simply cannot work the trip into their schedule or budget, the AIA is making 14 select convention education events available online through live video streaming, including all three keynote sessions. Further, participation qualifies one for continuing education learning units.

LEED 2009 Launches

AIA Diversity Program Calls for 2010 Recognition Submissions
The Diversity Recognition Program seeks to recognize architects for exemplary commitment and contributions to diversifying the profession of architecture. A diversified profession mirrors the society it serves; celebrates and encourages the contributions of all architects, regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, physical ability, religious belief, geographic location, or practice; encourages alternatives to traditional practice models; and provides opportunities for a greater variety of individuals to become architects, take advantage of leadership opportunities, and influence professional practices and lives.

Applied Research Call for Submissions
The AIA Board Knowledge Committee and College of Fellows provide base matching funds for applied research projects that advance professional knowledge and practice through the Upjohn Research Grants. The AIA seeks proposals for research projects to be completed in 18 months beginning December 1, 2009, and will award up to four grants between $15,000 and $30,000 each, for selected projects.

Green Energy Education Act Passes the House
The House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday that will allow the Department of Energy to reroute money to the National Science Foundation (NSF) that can be used for undergraduate or graduate engineering and architecture education programs that focus on the design and construction of energy efficient high-performance buildings.
