Technology in Architectural Practice KC: 2008 Achievements and 2009 Goals
by Tony Rinella, Associate AIA - 2009 Chair AIA Technology in Architectural Practice Knowledge Community

I am honored and energized to serve as 2009 chair of the TAP committee. We look forward to building on the excellent work of Kristine Fallon, FAIA (2007 chair), past chairs Stephen Hagan FAIA and Jim Bedrick AIA, and a long line of leaders reaching back to 1994, by expanding this work with material relevant in the context of our current and emerging practice needs.

Building Connections: the 5th Congress on Digital Collaboration in the Building Industry
by Kristine K. Fallon, FAIA

TAP hosted Building Connections: the 5th Congress on Digital Collaboration in the Building Industry on November 17, 2008 at AIA headquarters in Washington, DC. Serving as advocates and liaisons for the profession with software vendors and developers of standards and guidelines for the use of advanced technologies in practice, TAP’s Advisory Group originated and continues to host this initiative, which includes an annual invitation-only Congress and a website. Solibri sponsored the 2008 Congress.

Building Connections 2008- Notes of a practicing architect
by David R. Scheer AIA, AICP, LEED AP

I've been using BIM in my small architecture office since well before the term became popular. When my staff finally rebelled against hand drafting, I didn't just go out and buy a bunch of AutoCAD seats. I looked around and, being somewhat iconoclastic by nature, I bought an alternative product that offered the advantages of building a single, information-laden 3D model that generating the drawings. Of course it didn't work quite as advertised (what does?) but we stuck with it.
