Dear Colleague,

Election Day is fast approaching, with just two weeks left until you cast your ballot. As a part of AIA's DesignVote12 program, we want to once again encourage you to exercise your constitutional right to vote (view video).

You may have already utilized the early voting options available in your state, or maybe you prefer the traditional means of casting your vote on Election Day. No matter how you vote, I want to assure you that your vote matters!

In addition to selecting candidates for local, state, and federal offices, you may be voting for a multitude of referendums and initiatives that will affect your business, your family, and your community overall. Casting your ballot on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, is crucial to making sure your voice is heard on these issues.

In preparation for Election Day, now is the time to make sure that you are aware of the logistics and information required to vote. The state election authorities can assist you to:
  • Confirm that you are registered to vote
  • Determine the location of your polling precinct
  • Make sure that you have the appropriate personal identification documents that your state requires
  • Learn about the candidates, the different ballot initiatives, and view sample ballots
If you are still undecided about your U.S. House of Representatives or Senate candidates, or if you feel you need additional information, don't forget to use the AIA's DesignVote12 voter guide to find out where the candidates stand on issues important to architects and the built environment.

After you cast your vote, you can keep up with the AIA's analysis of the election results on the official AIA Advocacy Twitter feed and AIA Advocacy Facebook page. You can also find the most up-to-date news and information on legislative and policy issues important to the AIA on both Web sites. Include the DesignVote12 hashtag #dv12 in your tweets, and follow the #dv12 conversation to see what other AIA members are saying.

Whether you vote Democratic, Republican, or for third-party candidates, we want to make sure that you have all of the information you need to vote in two weeks by heading over to the DesignVote12 Web site. Together, we can, and we will, make a difference for the architectural profession across the nation.

Sincerely,

Jeff Potter, FAIA
2012 President
