Letter from the Chair

As the summer heats up and you return from 4th of July holiday, we hope you take a moment to read and enjoy AAJ 2nd quarter Journal.  For those of you that made the journey to Chicago for the AIA Convention we trust it was a rewarding experience.

This Journal edition features an overview of a recent Court of the Future Network conference convened in Paris.  The article entitled Security and the Courthouse by Frank Greene, FAIA discusses four sessions, each of which was based on one of the four types of security (Environment, Process, Society, and Person) defined in the new book by Frederic Gros entitled Le Principe Securite.  Environment, Process, Society, and Person.

In Clarifying the California Design/Build Review Process Lorenzo Lopez, AIA offers pointers on navigating an often confusing process, and finally, get to know Kristine Johnson, AIA, our 2nd quarter Emerging Professional Profile.

In a look ahead, our 3rd quarter journal will feature the first round of the 2014 Justice Facility Review (JFR) projects, another article about PREA, and on CG/CM deliver.

Stay cool and enjoy your summer!

This white paper is a proposition for the role of the justice system in contributing to the continuing viability of our society. Intended to complement other public initiatives with the year 2030 as the planning horizon, we aim to articulate a vision for how green justice buildings can serve a green and sustainable justice system as a foundational element of a sustainable society.
