2012 Summer Leadership Summit

Are you involved in AAH committee work or do you want to be?

While the attendance is limited, there may still be an opportunity to attend this years leadership conference, July 27-29 in Chicago. This session will involve time for the committees (AIA Liaison/Vision and Strategy, Research/AAHF Liaison, Conf/Events/Codes & Standards, Sponsorships, Communications, Education, Industry Liaison/Regional Initiatives, Design Awards/Design Initiatives, and Director of Operations) to work together and also hear and participate in a series of challenging presentations. The focus of this years summit will be "Frugal Fatigue: Are we ready to put our plans into action?"

Herman Miller Healthcare Scholars Program for Intern Architects in Healthcare

Herman Miller Healthcare will sponsor eight intern architects to attend HealthcareDesign12, the fall conference of the Center for Health Design/AIA Academy of Architecture for Health. The conference will be held at the Phoenix Convention Center, Phoenix, AZ from November 3-6, 2012.

Each selected intern architect will receive up to a $1,500 reimbursement to cover registration fees, air travel, and hotel room costs. This scholarship program is part of Herman Miller's continuing commitment to excellence in healthcare architecture and support of young architects.

Design for the Latest Technology in Cancer Treatment: A Carbon Therapy Center

Carbon Therapy is the latest technology for cancer treatment; a form of radiation therapy not found in the present U.S healthcare system but already being used in parts of Europe and Japan. The aim was to understand the complex functioning of a carbon therapy center and derive design-guidelines that determine the architectural response to it.

The Road to Flexibility: Adaptability, Transformability, and Convertibility
