Guidelines Work Group



Are you a Guidelines guru—or at least interested in improving the Guidelines? A specialty work group of the Codes and Standards Committee of the Academy of Architecture for Health will be making proposed changes for the 2014 edition of the FGI Guidelines from the perspective of practicing architects this summer. Ifyou are actively using the Guidelines and would like to find out more about participating in this effort, please contact Scotty Miller at SMiller@moodynolan.com or Rebecca Lewis at RLewis@dsgw.com.

AIA Arthur N. Tuttle Jr. Graduate Fellowship in Health Facility Planning and Design

Congratulations to the 2011 Fellow recipients are: Amy D. Kicher, MArch candidate, Texas A&M University, “An Urban Healthcare Model for Outpatient Care and Wellness”, and Laura McDaniel Portney, March, Boston Architectural College, “Affective Design: Architecture as a Catalyst for Healing”.

The goals of the Fellowship are to:

  • increase architecture students’ awareness of the special needs and nature of health facilities;
  • attract talented young students to this field, and
  • advance the knowledge of planning and design of healthcare environments.

The Institute for Patient- and Family-Centered Care invites abstracts from adult health care, geriatrics, pediatrics, newborn intensive care, medical homes, accountable care organizations, primary care, integrative health care, chronic illness care, emergency care, critical care, long-term care, behavioral and mental health, and public health.

Call for Nominations 2012 Gold Medal and Architecture Firm Award

The Honors and Awards Department is currently accepting nominations for the 2012 Gold Medal and Architecture Firm Awards.

Deadline: All submissions must be received by 5:00 p.m., 15 July 2011.

Nomination Information: Nominations made by an AIA Component, Knowledge Community, or a member of the Institute's Board of Directors will be accepted for review by the Gold Medal/Firm Award Advisory Jury. The jury will also accept nominations by petition if a nominee receives signatures from either 5 Fellows or any 10 AIA members in good standing. Petition signers may not be a principal and/or employee of the nominee or the nominee's firm. For submission information for each program, please visit the Honors and Awards Web site.
