AIA-AAH Presidential Citations
By Ray Pentecost, FAIA, DrPH, ACHA, and LEED AP
In order to recognize the work of individuals and organizations who make exceptional contributions to the success of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health (the Academy), the Board of Directors instituted in 2010 the Presidential Citation. Awarded annually at the discretion of the Academy Board President, in consultation with the other members of the Academy Board of Directors, the Presidential Citation is the highest honor that the Academy offers to those individuals and organizations who have contributed extraordinary beneficial effort directly to its work.
Three awards were given in 2010. One was given to Alan Dilani, PhD, Founder and Director General of the International Academy for Design and Health (IADH) headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden for his work in advancing causes shared by the Academy and for his generous partnership relationship with the Academy for the joint hosting of the 7th Design & Health World Congress and Exhibition in Boston from July 6-10, 2011.
The other two Presidential Citations were shared by Terry Canela, Esq. and Terri Stewart, CAE for their tireless efforts to help launch the “new” Academy. Terry is an attorney working at the AIA, and Terri was the AIA staff person responsible for the Academy in 2010. After 65 years celebrating the specialty of health architecture, the Academy received new life in 2010 with a new set of Bylaws, a new budget structure, and a new Operations Manual. Any one of those three represents a tremendous effort, but to bring all three to completion in a coordinated manner was a monumental undertaking. Read Citations
Congratulations to the 2010 winners of the AIA Academy of Architecture for Health Presidential Citations!
